Omega-3 fatty acids, fish oil, alpha-linolenic acid

Omega-3/Nutrient Depletion:
  • AlcoholAlcohol: In pregnant women, the proportion of drinking days at the first prenatal visit was associated with decreased DHA in plasma and erythrocytes throughout the research (24 weeks' gestation, delivery, three months postpartum) (559).
  • VitaminsVitamins: Fish oil taken for many months may cause a deficiency of vitamin E (111; 112; 113), and therefore vitamin E is added to many commercial fish oil products. As a result, regular use of vitamin E-enriched products in combination with fish oil may lead to elevated levels of this fat-soluble vitamin.
