Antiparkinson Agents/Nutrient Depletion:
  • IronIron: Based on human study, iron may reduce the amount of levodopa absorbed by forming chelates with levodopa (Sinemet®) (2920496). Secondary sources cite that until further research is available, doses of levodopa and iron should be separated.
  • Niacin/Niacinamide:Niacin/Niacinamide: Based on human study, L-dopa, benserazide, and carbidopa may deplete niacin through reduced synthesis of nicotinamide coenzymes from tryptophan and increased urinary excretion of N1-methyl-nicotinamide (477187).
  • Potassium:Potassium: Based on reviews, L-dopa may increase urinary excretion of potassium, which may lead to hypokalemia (851038, 4927447).
