What's New in Produce for December?
It's December and we love the unique mix of organic and local produce that comes into the co-op as winter sets in. Currently we have delicious organic chestnuts for the holidays, plus plenty of local apples and pears, not to mention the first harvest of the season's rich choice of root vegetables.
Staff Spotlight: Mary Gleason
Ask anyone, and they'll tell you that Mary is resourceful, helpful, smiling, and that our regular customers really enjoy chatting with her when they come in. We're thankful to have her on our team as a cashier and as a co-op friend.
Ginger from the Finger Lakes (Believe it or not!)
"We like to push the envelope," says Fred Forsburg, owner of Honeyhill Farm (pictured left), to explain why he and his wife Sue made the crazy decision to try and grow a tropical crop on their farm in Livonia, New York.
Local Abundance: Celebrating Our Local Partners at the Co-op

If you've been in the store recently, you might have noticed the bright green wall in our produce section. We recently unveiled our new "Local Abundance" wall as a way of highlighting and celebrating our long-standing partners in our community who put such care into how and what they make or grow.

Holiday Meal Makeover
Festive meals, "complete with all the trimmings," are part and parcel of holiday celebrations. Unfortunately, entrees and trimmings alike are often calorie-laden dishes that leave us feeling sluggish and regretful. This year, when you share the bounty, why not give it a healthy makeover? With a few simple substitutions, you can transform your typical holiday dinner into a real cause for celebration.
Abundance + Thanksgiving = Shareholder Thanksgiving!
Without you, shareholders, we wouldn't be here. We'd like to express our gratitude to you this Thanksgiving by inviting you to a special event at our store on Saturday, November 23, from 12:00-4:00 pm.
Locally-grown Partyka Pumpkin Seeds Now Available

We're really happy to be able to carry special and extra-tasty pumpkin seeds from Paryka Farms in Kendall, New York--that means they're not only US-grown, but local.

You may have seen the sign to the left around our store or  at events. If not, you will. And when you see it, you should try it out--you'll discover a really fun web "playground." Click below to learn more and to see what happened when our very own staff member Monique Marollo decided to "try" it.

Congratulations on Ten Years, Naz!
Nazareno Runfola (known as "Naz") celebrated his tenth year at the co-op last week. He not only brings a wealth of talents and wisdom to the everyday running of the store, but is the really knowledgeable (and approachable) Senior Buyer behind our super grocery items.

Get to Know Our Squash This Autumn!

Squash sometimes falls out of the lime light next to the more exciting produce, but as a co-op in western New York, we're actually really excited about all the squash varieties we can find native to our region. We currently carry six different varieties, each unique and perfect for an autumnal dish.

Out With the Old: New Freezer Display Installed
Recently, our main nine-door cold freezer failed. Permanently. But thanks to the amazing efforts of the Central Store Team, panic definitely did not ensue. It's not all bad news: we now have a freezer that is much more energy efficient.
Produce Highlights: Pomegranates, Shallots, Equal Exchange Avocadoes & More

A number of amazing produce items are coming into the store as we round out the month of October. Not only is squash season rearing up along with tart anti-oxidant rich fruits like pomegranates and cranberries, but we're excited to announce that Equal Exchange now distributes fair trade avocadoes.

The Difference a Thanksgiving Turkey Can Make

Did you know that Americans eat more than 45 million turkeys every Thanksgiving? That is one-sixth of all turkey consumed throughout the whole year. Very few of those birds are raised on sustainably managed farms and are free of antibiotics and hormones. Order your turkey from Abundance this year and make a true Thanksgiving difference.

Produce Highlights: Kiwi Berries, Organic Lemons, and Asian Pears

Check out some of the newest items in our produce section: a new fruit you may not know, an old favorite returns, and a delicious classic is now available.
